Return to Running

Welcome to the Return to Running Program 

This is an evidence-based outline to allow an athlete to return to running in a safe, progressive way. This has been formulated by physical therapists, athletic trainers, and strength coaches with extensive pro-team and adolescent/ adult sports medicine experience. Running has been shown in some studies to generate forces 5x as great as walking. That is why, after a bout of deconditioning or injury, it is important to return to running in a progressive fashion.

 

There are two return-to-running programs:

 

1. Return to running - 20-minute interval running program

 

2. Return to running - 30-minute steady-state running program
